Red Dead Redemption Available for PS3, XBox and PC
Rating:    10 Out of 10
Red Dead Redemption is the latest 3rd person "shooter" from RockStar gaming, the people who brought you Grand Theft Auto.

In Red Dead Redemption you play John Marston, an ex-outlaw bent on turning things around, settling down and making a life for himself, his wife and young son. The game takes place during "The Old West" in 3 main locations: New Austin, West Elizabeth and Nuevo Paraiso. Keeping in true Rockstar tradition these locations mimic real locations. Respectively, New Austin appears to be Texas, West Elizabeth resembles a New England town and Nuevo Paraiso would be Mexico.

RDR plays very much like the GTA games, having a lot of the same controls and mission styles. That being said, RDR is Slightly like GTA in the old west,
but there are enough differences to make this NOT a re-hash of prior games.

First off, the setting of the Old West adds new challenges that you didn't face before. The law is a little more harsh and many people carry their own weapons and are more than willing to deal out some swift justice of their own.

Along with the main storyline mission there are plenty of side missions to work on as well. There are also achievements you can work on in order to get bonuses and extra "stuff". Collecting Herbs, shooting and skinning certain animals and collecting hidden treasure are just a few of the things you can work on throughout the game in order o obtain special items. (Legend of the West outfit is pretty damn cool).

The side missions add a lot of spice to the game and are a great way to change things up. Throughout the game you'll encounter random strangers who want to duel you, or who need your help recovering their wagon or horse, or a whore is being attacked by some rugged guy who wants more than he's supposed to get. On top of this, there are also actual "stranger" missions that sort of add to the storyline, but are not a requirement to get the full benefit of the story. These are actually indicated on your map, but usually there is no notification that they're there. You just happen to see them while looking for something else. These stranger missions can be a drag sometimes, but the rewards are usually worth it.

One new aspect that's different from the GTA games is Dead Eye. This is a sort of Slow Motion mode you can enter when shooting at someone. It allows you to "paint" multiple X's (Eventually.. At first, you can only enter Dead Eye mode and can't mark targets) on your target or Targets before pulling the trigger. After which, time speeds back up and you proceed to automatically shoot where ever you marked.
Dead Eye is also used in the same manner in Duels. Your objective is to fill your Damage Meter before your opponent does. Where you place your shots decides how much it fills the meter, so a head shot will do more damage than a leg shot. You can also disarm your opponents for some added Honor.

Depending on how you treat people and how you act in the world can gain or lose honor for you. Lose too much honor and people won't treat you nicely.

Another aspect of the game are...well, the games! You can play Hold Em Poker, Liars Dice, Finger Filet and several others. It's actually not a bad way to earn some money and it's a LOT of fun. Playing Poker, the computer isn't stupid. They will bluff you, and they do play with strategies.

Pros:
I simply can't say enough about this game. I've loved it since the first time I turned it on and am actually working on my second play through at the time of this review. The length of time you'll spend in this game is just like any other RockStar game... a lot. The graphics are fantastic and the Old West scenery is beautiful. Rockstar hit it out of the park on this one if you ask me.

Cons:
I honestly can't think of anything that I would list as a bad thing about this game. I've loved every second I've played it. There of course is an occasional glitch here and there, but that's with every game. This gets a hearty 10 out of 10.
